Early Detection of Colon Cancer

Colorectal cancer is the second most preventable cancer.
Each year across Middle Tennessee, our team of colorectal specialists is helping to reduce the number of deaths from cancers of the colon. Early detection through regular screenings – before symptoms appear – is the key to improved outcomes.

Colon cancers typically start with benign growths called polyps. When found early, before any symptoms appear and before the cancer has begun to spread, outcomes can be improved.

Regular screenings are recommended for both men and women beginning at age 50. Some of these tests might include:

  • Fecal occult blood test (FOBT)
  • Colonoscopy
